To answer the question ‘which is the best mini segway’, we need to look at the current state of the mini segway or the hoverboard industry in USA.

Recently due to safety issues, patent laws and mini segway related fires, there has been considerable legislation and restrictions on mini segways. The original Segway brand has got the import of the two wheeled hoverboard banned by means of the patents that they hold. The US Govt. agency, CPSC, has stated that no hoverboard is deemed safe unless it is UL 2272 standard certified.

Till now no mini segway has come out and claimed that it is UL 2272 certified, though a few made claims and then backtracked. Within this scenario some mini segway brands still stand out as leaders in the market.

Today it makes sense to buy a mini segway only from a company that a definite US presence. Many so called mini segway brands are only importers who do not have a base in the US.

As far as brands of mini segways go, there are literally hundreds available online. Most of them are nearly unbranded generic hoverboards that sell with a brand name like Two Wheeled Self Balancing Board.

A few companies have established themselves as leaders in the Mini Segway market in the US, and one of them is Swagway. A quick and easy way to find out whether you Swagway is a V1 or a V2 is to look at the wheels. The V1 model has wheels which bulge out.

The V2 model has wheels that do not have the bulge. This is a good way to figure out your model, however, to be absolutely sure you should look for the model number at the labels on your Swagway hoverboard or on the documents that came with the hoverboard.

What if you have some other brand of hoverboard

If you do not have a Swagway, you should not try to fit in the Sentry Shield Battery on your own, but seek help directly from Swagway. Go to the Contact Us section of the Swagway website, and send them an email regarding your query. Alternatively you can just pick up your phone and call them at 1-844-299-0625 any time between 10 am and 8.30 pm (EST) Monday through Friday.

The Swagway people are under a lot of delivery and query pressure and have written on their website that they need at least 48 hours to properly respond to any emails and phone calls, so you should contact them quickly so that your query gets answered in a few days.

A very good idea is to watch the video below, featuring a person who has been trained by Swagway engineers, who shows you how to replace the battery of a Swagway with a Swagway Sentry Shield Battery. The person shows it all in a very simple and step by step manner, and even talks about how you can dispose of your old battery safely, which is very important as these batteries can be a fire hazard and are also very harmful to the environment.

Replacing the battery with a Sentry Shield Battery system is almost as simple as opening up one side of the hoverboard, unscrewing the battery holder frame and then screwing the Sentry Shield Battery system into the slots of the battery holder frame. The Swagway X1 and other models of Swagway come with a plastic frame that holds the battery in place. As you will see in the video above, you just need to remove that frame by opening four screws, and then screw in the Sentry Shield Battery case into the same four slots.

SwagTron is the next generation hoverboard from Swagway, and it is almost here. According to the Swagway website, it is slated for a late April launch, but it may get slightly delayed.

The Swagway SwagTron is being touted as the most technologically advanced personal transportation device in the market, and will come packed with really exciting features. We have already done a review of the Swagway SwagTron when it was showcased in CES 2016.

As news of its release trickles in, we think that it will create a huge impact on the hoverboard market in the USA. Swagway is already the most trusted and biggest hoverboard brand in the United States now, and with the launch of their next gen SwagTron hoverboard it will seal its place as the No. 1 hoverboard brand.

Some of the new features that we got to know about from the Swagway personnel and website are an advanced and more interactive lighting system that will do much more than just indicating which side motor has been engaged by the footpads.

For a much smoother and more intuitive riding experience, the Swagway SwagTron will have a differential gear system. The differential gear system is one of the most ingenious inventions ever, and enables parallel wheels of a vehicle to spin in different speeds. This is essential when making a turn, as the outer wheel has to move a greater distance in the same time as the inner wheel. This is achieved through a differential gear system. The Swagway SwagTron will also have a very useful carrying handle that we already saw during the demonstration in CES 2016.

The SwagTron will also have an advanced 5 dot battery indicator system, that will make it easy to gauge the amount of charge left in the hoverboard. It will have front and back lights, to improve safety and make the hoverboard rider more visible in the night. Another great additional feature will be an app both for Apple phones and devices and Andriod phones and devices, that will among other features, have a speedometer that will tell you the exact speed of the SwagTron.

When we came across the SwagTron in CES 2016, we got to know quite a bit about it. Here is a recap of the SwagTron at CES 2016 in Las Vegas.

When it was showcased in CES 2016, the main emphasis was on its fire-retardant features. The SwagTron had been specifically designed to be fire and fire-related defects proof.

Back in January 2016, Swagway was calling it the ‘safest and most technologically advanced personal transportation device available on the market’. The SwagTron was a clear indication of the level of commitment of the company and of CEO Johnny Zhu. Swagway was not only looking ahead and trying to develop a hoverboard that was safer and met all safety and quality standards, it was one of the only hoverboard companies working closely with UL to create the standards for the hoverboard industry in the US.

During CES Mashable’s Lance Ulanoff’s created a video of the Swagtron:

The details of the new SwagTron were quite exciting.

With a 70% market share, Swagway, is the biggest player in the US hoverboard market. The press tried to catch up with the camera shy CEO of Swagway Johnny Zhu, who was very upbeat about the SwagTron.

The SwagTron Review – what features were displayed in CES 2016

The SwagTron was clearly an improved version of the other hoverboards. Its body was made from a fir-retardant plastic, its footpads are also made from fire-retardant material, its battery is inside an aluminum casing and it has a carrying handle on the underside. The Sentry Shield™ technology of the SgwagTron was specially developed to prevent fires.

We took a look at the feature of the SwagTron in CES 2016 –

Fire-retardant Plastic Chassis – This will play an important role in containing any kind of fire, as the main body of the SwagTron will be fire-retardant. The material is poly-carbonate (fire-resistant) hard plastic, and the entire shell is made from it.

Fire-retardant Footpads – The footpads control the motors of the hoverboard and are the part which stays in contact with the rider. Making the rubber footboards fire-retardant means the chances of fire injury are much reduced for the person riding the hoverboard.

Sentry Shield™ technology wrapping the battery – The battery of the SwagTron will be encased in an aluminum chamber, that has been built using the Sentry Shield technology. This lithium-ion battery is the biggest cause of fires and explosions, and encasing it in a special aluminum chamber is the biggest add-on safety feature of the SwagTron.

Fire-retardant coating on internal components – In the inside of the SwagTron, all the major components like wires and circuit boards have bene coated with a special fire-retardant coating. This is a further enhancement, to make the hoverboard fire-proof.

Bluetooth Speakers – One variant of the SwagTron will feature bluetooth speakers. These Quad Bluetooth Speakers will be towards the underside of the hoverboard.

Smarphone App – A cool smartphone app will enable the rider to check speed, battery charge, mode, location and several other factors.

Unique Design – The SwagTron has a unique design and shape, that will make it difficult to be copied. One of the problems Swagway is having, is with copies of its Swagway X1 model.

Fabric Carry Strap built-in – On the underside of the SwagTron is a built-in carrying strap that will add new convenience to this hoverboard. The carrying strap is made of a strong fabric.
