Recently, Russel Crowe the Gladiator star, had a Twitter showdown with Virgin Australia, after he was not allowed to carry his children’s hoverboards on a flight from Sydney to Coffs Harbour.

Russell Crowe was upset about the fact that he had not been informed beforehand about not being able to carry hoverboards on board Virgin Australia airlines. He was going on holiday with his children, and was not allowed to book the hoverboards on the flight.

Quite angry about it all, he vowed never to travel by Virgin again.

He then went into a Tweet-rant which was answered very politely by Virgin.

With Virgin informing him about the fact that hoverboards were listed under dangerous goods and that they were mentioned on the booking and confirmation emails, Russell didn’t really have too much to say.

In fact in mid-December 2015, a notice issued by the International Air Travel Association pointed out nearly 60 airlines around the world, including Virgin, Emirates, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Qantas, that had banned hoverboards as carry-on and checked baggage.

Comedian, Joel Creasey, sent out a cheeky tweet telling Russell to ‘get some perspective’, who answered with some left-over angst. Here’s how that two tweet long conversation went:

Wiz Khalifa Handcuffed at airport for riding his hoverboard

A celebrity who got into some real trouble with a hoverboard at the airport was Wiz Khalifa. The rapper refused to get off his hoverboard and was apprehended by Customs and Border Patrol officers. When he was approached by the police officers, Khalifa refused to leave his hoverboard, tweeting that ‘I didn't want to ditch the [technology] everyone will be using in the next 6 months’.

Three policemen forced him to the ground and handcuffed him.

Amazon Hoverboard Refund is all over the news, and the catalyst was the many fires that have been reported around the United States. There was a fire as recently as last Tuesday in Santa Rosa, California, where a girl had left her hoverboard plugged in for charging, and the family had gone out. Their two dogs died of smoke inhalation and they had over $ 250,000 damages to their property. In another recent news a teenager managed to save two eight year olds, when a hoverboard started to smoke and then caused a fire.

There have been close to 50 hoverboard fire related incidents, and they aren’t stopping. It was about time for the US Government to step in, and they have now launched an investigation into several companies that have been importing or assembling hoverboards into the United States.

NOTE : It has to be added that Swagway has been having an ongoing dialogue with Underwriters Laboratory (UL) regarding their safety and quality certifications. In the latest news, a Swagway spokesman has said, “As Swagway informed UL several weeks ago, Swagway has always ordered and used UL-certified battery cells and UL-certified adapters for its hoverboards.”

Swagway is saying that it is using UL certified components in its hoverboards, and it has been talking “for weeks” to UL about this. They plan to keep working closely with Underwriters Laboratory to create viable safety standards.

However, despite all of this, John Drengenberg, consumer safety director at Underwriters Laboratory, said “hoverboards must be tested by UL and pass a rigorous set of safety standards in order to be eligible to bear the UL mark.” UL says that having a UL mark on the packaging of a hoverboard is not enough and does not prove that it is certified safe by UL.

Amazon took a voluntary and extremely welcome step by offering a full refund to anyone who has bought a hoverboard from them. A month back they had removed several brnads of hoverboards from their listing, as they did not have safety and quality certifications, but now they have gone allt he way, and are offering full refunds.

The Government has welcomed this step by Amazon and is asking people to go ahead and take the ‘Amazon Hoverboard Refund’. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is already investigating several companies that either assemble or sell hoverboards in the United States.

The Chairman of U.S. CPSC had released a statement earlier on Wednesday where he talked about the ongoing safety concerns on hoverboards and also mentioned Amazon’s move.

“I want to commend Amazon for voluntarily stepping up … and putting customer safety first.”. He also added, “I am pleased that at least one leading retailer is erring on the side of caution and taking action now,”.

“Consumers who purchased a hoverboard from Amazon can return the product right now for a full refund.”

This “Consumers who purchased a hoverboard from Amazon can return the product right now for a full refund” statement that has really been picked up everywhere. Yes the Amazon Hoverboard Refund is true and you can go ahead and get your refund right now.

An important point to note however is that Amazon is offering these refunds in the United States and in Canada.

Another part of the statement release by the Chairman of U.S CPSC was interesting – “We are looking deeper into the design of these products…”. This means that we should soon get a safer next generation hoverboard in the market, that eliminates all the problems and faults of the current one. That will surely be a welcome development for all those who are keen to own hoverboards and all those who are already hoverboard converts. Kudos to the retail giant for offering ‘Amazon Hoverboard Refunds’.
